Warehouse Management & Stock Locations.
< Back to COLLEGE HOME
Click the Manufacturing Resources tab on the HOME Screen, then locate and select the Resource Record Card from the List.
Now click the Manage Locations button in the Warehouse Management panel, without clicking to EDIT this record first. If it is already in EDIT mode, finish what you are doing and click the SAVE button, or REVERT to Exit data entry mode.
This takes you to Step 2.
Click the NEW RECORD button and proceed to Step 3.
The Primary Location Sequence No. for any Stock Item should be zero (0). If you add Additional Locations for the item you should sequence them 1, 2, 3 and so on. The reason for this is that when Merlin Issues Materials to Jobs, it will draw them from the Primary Location first. If there is an insufficient quantity in this Location, Merlin will work down the list of locations in sequential order until Issue Quantity has has been satisfied.
You need enter only a Reference ID for the Location itself. Notes, as always, are optional.
If you are starting out afresh, a logical system would be to use the warehouse Aisle Number followed by a Bay No., e.g. "A15B26". If you have more than one Warehouse, you could prefix this with the Warehouse No., e.g."1A15B26". Nice and easy to understand to follow. Click SAVE when you are done.
To add addition Locations for this Item, repeat from Step 2 for each addition space, then click the Locations for this Item tab.
This takes you to Step 4.
You will now see the results of your handiwork in the List. Click the any item in the list to view the Location. You can Edit the entry if and when neccessary, e.g. you relocate the item in a different bay, leaving this one vacant until you use it for something else. When done, click EXIT.
This take you to Step 5.
You will then be taken back to the Resource Record Card, with the Primary Location populated for this item.
But what if you move stock from one location to another? First, ensure that the new Location for this item has been set-up as above. Then proceed to Step 6.
You will from time to time need to move Stock with Multiple Locations from one location to another. To do this, click the Manage Locations button on the Resource Record Card, click the TRANSFER Stock... button, and you will see this panel.
In the From: column Click the Location from which you wish to Transfer Stock, and in the To: column click the Location to which you wish to transfer it. In the Qty. to Move field you will be prompted with the total quantity in the From Location. If you are not moving it all, type in the Quantity you wish to transfer. Check it is correct, then click the Transfer Button, or EXIT to cancel the transfer. Clicking EXIT FORM will return you to the Resource Record Card.
